Southwestern Ontario’s favourite style of fence comes with loads of benefits for property owners. Let’s dig into the value-packed reasons why a chain link fence could be the greatest option for you.
Look around and you will see that chain link fences are everywhere – your neighbours have them, the storage place is surrounded by them and even the big industrial complexes are protected with them.
In-Line Fence has been installing chain link fences since we started, and they are one of our most popular styles. Let’s take a look at In-Line’s top six reasons why you should be looking at a chain link fence this year.
A Chain Link Fence is Resilient
Back when I was just a young lad, chain link fences were the go-to for residential properties, and over the past few decades, many of those same fences are still around. They last a really long time!
Whether the fence is made of steel with a protective layer of zinc or vinyl, chain link fences can last decades, and withstand brutal weather and other elements, like the constant onslaught of abuse from children and animals.
Even in the worst-case scenario, if a car drives through your fence, or a tree crushes a section of it, you will be surprised at how little damage results, and how quickly the damaged section can be repaired.
A Chain Link Fence is Cost Efficient
Every chain link fence has the same basic structure at its core: twisted metal wiring with a sturdy metal post structure. This simplicity and lightweight design leads to incredible efficiencies in the manufacturing process. It’s also easier and faster to install, saving property owners money.
These reasons make chain link fences cheaper in price than other styles: wood board, vinyl and wire fencing.
A Chain Link Fence is Adaptable
As an Ontario homeowner, you likely see chain link fences in your neighbourhood in every direction, but did you know that chain link is the most popular style for commercial and industrial applications too?
Fences on residential properties keep dogs and children in the backyard, and create enclosures for pools. Commercial and industrial businesses rely on chain link fences for a wide variety of purposes – securing car lots, defining property lines, keeping people away from harmful goods – and results in neighbourly curb appeal.
A Chain Link Fence is Secure
Chain link fences make the lives of intruders pretty difficult. When high enough, they are difficult to climb, and specialized tools would be needed to cut through the strong steel chains. Chain link fences are also perfect to keep wild animals out, and your pets and children in. The security of your most valuable possessions can be trusted.
For an added dash of security on commercial and industrial properties, barbed wire can face inward to deter theft.
A Chain Link Fence Has Low Maintenance
They last practically forever, and you will rarely need to put any significant dollars and effort into keeping your chain link fence looking great. Most of the chain link fences installed 20 or 30 years ago are still proudly standing strong.
We do recommend that our customers perform annual cleaning of the posts, if needed, and touch-up the paint if peeling occurs. This usually does not need to occur until beyond the fifth year of installation.
A Chain Link Fence is Customizable
This is our favourite benefit because the possibilities with chain link fences are so wide and varied that you could have an entire article devoted to customization options. (Hey, maybe that will be my next one!)
Height – From four feet to eight feet and beyond, chain link fences have varied heights to accommodate every application.
Colours – Green was all of the rage 30 years ago, but we are really loving the aesthetically pleasing fences that are coated in black vinyl or polyvinyl. Black not only looks very sharp, but increases the fence’s strength and resists corrosion.
Gates – Shapes of your gates can be square or rectangular, and have rounded steel corners, with hundreds of options for latches and hinges. You can have one style of gate for your walkway and a dual gate for your driveway. They can slide, swing and even be motorized. The personalization and ease of gate use is only limited to your imagination.
Privacy – We appreciate how chain link fences are often completely see-through, with few obstructions that will disrupt the sightlines on your property. But there are many others who appreciate privacy, and we encourage them to choose either privacy screens (that are installed on one side of the fence) or privacy slats (woven between the links).
